Shari Werner

Shari Werner is an abstract textile artist based in New York City who creates two-dimensional compositions from boldly cut fabric shapes, machine-pieced and quilted. She began her fiber journey early, learning to knit and crochet from her grandmother, and later studied weaving in high school and college. She practiced dentistry for 34 years before transitioning to a full-time studio artist in 2018.

Shari began quilt making in 1998 and started designing her own work soon after. She has studied with Nancy Crow which impacted her approach to composition and intuitive design. Shari typically works in series, letting ideas unfold directly on the design wall and at times, developing pieces from paper collages.

Her work has been shown widely in juried and invitational exhibitions, including internationally in Germany, and she received the Outstanding Machine Pieced Quilt Award at Quilt National 2023.
