Shari Werner
Shari Werner is an abstract textile artist based in New York City who creates two-dimensional compositions from boldly cut fabric shapes, machine-pieced and quilted. She began her fiber journey early, learning to knit and crochet from her grandmother, and later studied weaving in college. She practiced dentistry for 34 years before transitioning to a full-time studio artist in 2018.
Shari began quiltmaking in 1998 and started designing her own work soon after. Shari typically works in series, letting ideas unfold directly on the design wall and at times, developing pieces from paper collages.
Her work has been shown widely in juried, solo and invitational exhibitions, including internationally in Germany. She received the Outstanding Machine Pieced Quilt Award at Quilt National 2023.
