Carol Paik
Carol Paik is a New York based mixed-media artist, interested in re-examining that which we take for granted, in terms of processes as well as materials. She enjoys experimenting with traditional fiber techniques to discover what can be created once functionality is no longer the dominant concern. She focuses on repurposing discarded textiles and other detritus of our everyday lives, finding that these undervalued materials, which bear the marks of their prior histories, bring layers of emotion and meaning to her work. She most enjoys taking something that is overlooked, and looking at it closely. Or, taking something too frequently seen, and looking at it differently. She is interested in the emotions that we bring to the familiar, and her goal is to give these objects—and, by extension, ourselves—new possibilities.
